Hope you have all seen the advert for our first event on the Calendar of Events page (under the Welcome heading), where we are creating a fun Christmassy atmosphere to cheer up shoppers in Swindon’s Outlet Shopping Centre whilst the Zurich Community Choir, known as Makin’ MuZic, will provide carols and music.  Of course, in return for providing some fun entertainment we hope shoppers will donate their loose change to our charities.

Sinead has been to take a look at where we will be situated so that we can get an idea of what space we have.  Debbie is working on putting together a display, giving a glimpse of the End Polio Now campaign and Zurich Cares (the 2 charities we will be collecting for), info on what Rotary is and the eClub, and about Makin’ MuZic’s Christmas Concert.  The clever thing about this display is that it will also be getting into the Christmas spirit by dressing up as a sleigh with appropriate decorations!  Debbie and myself are also making sure we have collecting buckets for the day.

We are asking all members of the eClub coming along to dress in a Christmas costume – so far we have St Lucia, a star boy, Uncle Holly, 3 shepherds, a fairy and 4 as yet undecided.  Any takers out there to come as a pantomime character?

Once Sinead reports back and we’ve liaised with Makin’ MuZic we will be able to give you the time and place to meet.  If you don’t fancy arriving/leaving in costume then there are public toilets to change in on site.

This is a chance for us to have some fun, do something for our community, get to know each other and to begin our journey in Rotary together.  If you haven’t yet said you’ll come and you want to join the party just leave a reply here, and if you haven’t yet declared your costume make us smile and let us know in a reply here what you’re planning.  Don’t worry if you can’t make it, be with us in spirit and have a good laugh at the photos when we post them up.

It was a wonderful afternoon, both for friendship and raising money. We raised £150 for End Polio Now. 6 members took part, with added support from a Swindon Rotarian.
I’m just getting used to the names of members, I haven’t yet got a full grasp of where everyone is based (Tim’s better at that kind of thing). Once we sort out a club directory as part of this website it will be easy for us all to see at a glance our membership list and where everyone is situated. I believe you are the only member so far in Hereford, but we do have a couple in the Worcester/Malvern area (Conrad and Eoen) and someone in Evesham (Sue).
