Every 2nd and 4th Saturday we bring you a quick news update from around the Network which may have passed you by.

Peace One Day

One of our newest Rotarians, Enda Young, is helping us really make this a special day as a Rotary Peace Ambassador, so please can you help by promoting it through your Social Networks.  By going to the website Peace One Day there are some fabulous resources that you can just copy and paste, that make you look like an expert. During the Peace Day we are having a Face Space Day at Kevin’s in Swindon, a chance to get to know each other better, whether in person or on Skype, exchange information about using Social Media and sharing together the celebrations for Peace Day.

Rotaract Hub

Our Rotaract Hub has had over 1000 hits on Facebook in its promotion of the Peace Day Photography Contest, we look forward to seeing the results.

President Janice and Secretary Tim were guests at the opening of the UET Learning Centre in Swindon. Rotarian Jackie Smith (Head Teacher of Uplands School), thanked eRotary for their support of the project. The UET Charity Shop in Redhouse is in need of more volunteers to help Uplands pupils learn employment skills, please contact Secretary Tim if you can help.

Shoe Box Packing – can you help Debbie get ready to help pack the Shoe Boxes for Christmas? She’s planning to do this on Saturday 19th October at her house and would welcome people who’d like to help.  In the meantime can others please help provide the contents and really make those who receive the presents a really special offering.

So what do we need? If we have any knitters out there, scarfs, gloves and hats are always well received for any age. It seems they get lots for small children but very little for teenagers up to the age of 18. Things like makeup, toiletries, perfumes, sportswear, writing materials, combs, mirror, deodorants, etc are always popular. Household goods are always well received as well, but anything is acceptable. Just imagine never having received a present before, what would you like? If you are able to help in any way it will be very much appreciated.

Our campaign Getting Tied Up with Rotary – offering a new home to your unloved, unused neckties is really taking off, do help to continue to promote this endeavour to help raise much needed funds for the End Polio Now campaign. More information at Recycled Neckties. It was great this week to receive a large package from Edinburgh of DGN Alistair’s much loved ties, least everyone knows what to buy him for Christmas this year! Thanks also to the Rotary Club of Ealing who are collecting ties at Lisa’s Restaurant and are recruiting a sewing team. How many more Rotary Clubs can we involve in this different way of raising funds for End Polio Now?
