Programme for week commencing 4th September, 2014

As the schools start going back this week the Rotary International theme for the month of September is New Generations. Click 4 Action eRotary are quite involved in this area of Rotary Service, Pa Modou is our Youth Officer, James Lovatt is helping to get our Rotaract Hub underway, we run our Interact Club at Uplands involving Rotarians David, Lorna and Tim. Plus Rotarian Polly organises a great Young Writer’s Competition, so we have much to be proud of as we invest in the talents, enterprise and skills of the young people who hopefully will be encouraged to give Service above Self in future years.

For those members who are not familiar with Rotary’s New Generations work here is an excellent video showing some of what’s on offer:

In the members forum under Youth Service you will find a new competition to offer to young people, the Young Photographer Competition, this would be good to encourage your local schools to take part in.

As the month progresses you will hopefully learn more about our involvement with young people. For instance a small group of us are arranging a Cheese and Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on Sunday 5th October to raise funds for young people getting involved in Enterprise, through the work of the Cambodian Human and Hope Association which Rotarian Maria visited last year and the Uplands Educational Trust which Rotarian Tim is a trustee of. Both these projects are doing wonderful work with young people, please visit their websites to find out more. Better still come to the event on Sunday 5th October, where there will be presentations, food, fun and fellowship.

And there’s more! Rotarian David Pratt our Foundation Coordinator has been helping District 1100 with their proposed Vocational Training Team and Global Grant to help the work of the Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion in Bulgaria. Rotarian Tim is hoping the idea of developing Social Enterprise with the young people involved in the Houses of Opportunity will be something that could be considered being replicated in the UK.

So you can see we are already very much involved in the New Generation area of Service. Please get involved where you think your interests lie, do look out for other opportunities and do encourage others to help young people get an interest in community service. We wish everyone going back to school or college a good term ahead and we in Click 4 Action eRotary will continue our involvement and support.
